Rezum
What is Rezum?
The Rezum technology is the latest technological breakthrough in urology. In patients with age-related prostate enlargement, the intention is to destroy enlarged prostate tissue with radiofrequency energy through water evaporation.
How is Rezum applied?
The procedure is applied with a closed (endoscopic) method. Small needles are inserted after entering the prostate tissue as the camera passes through the urinary tract. With these needles an ablative (dissolving / destructive) effect is achieved in the tissue and the enlarged tissue is destroyed and removed.
Why is Rezum a revolutionary?
The Rezum procedure is revolutionary for elderly patients or those with serious health problems who cannot be operated on. Because it can be done under local anesthesia. The process only takes about 10 minutes from start to finish, even in the largest prostate. Patients can go home the same day. Compared to other treatment methods with a longer recovery period, patients return to their daily life more quickly after Rezum. The age group that benefits greatly from another procedure is the younger male patient group with prostate enlargement. When treated with classical methods, these patients may develop erection problems and, more often, retrograde ejaculation problems. However, the probability of retrograde ejaculation after Rezum is about 1%.
When will Rezum show its effect?
The effectiveness of the Rezum treatment is particularly evident in the first 2-3 weeks. Full efficacy is completed in the sixth month in some patients with large prostates.
Is the Rezum Process Safe?
The Rezum procedure has been used safely in the developed countries of the world since 2017, and 35,000 patients have been successfully treated worldwide to date. It has safety measures to prevent damage to the urinary tract (urethra) during the procedure.
