FUE type hair transplantation

How is it done and how long does it take?
FUE hair transplant is a hair transplant method that provides fast and successful results without any surgical procedure. In this method, which is popular all over the world, the hair follicles from the donor area, where the hair is most dense, are collected one by one with a special medical device and transferred to the bald and thinned recipient area. A session can last 6-9 hours on average. Depending on the amount of hair follicles needed to be transplanted, the procedure is completed with two or more sessions over a period of 1-2 days. With this technique, hair, moustache and eyebrow transplantation can also be done. It can be easily applied to any man and woman who have genetic baldness and have no health problems.
What is FUE?
FUE (follicular unit extraction) is one of the methods of hair transplantation. In this method, hair follicles from the donor area are extracted one by one and transplanted into the recipient area one by one. Hair follicles can only be collected from the back of the scalp and from the sides and transferred to the area where hair transplantation will be performed. It is an effective solution for those who suffer from hair loss.
The advantages of the FUE technique
The main advantage of this technique is that up to 5,000 follicular units can be transferred in a single session. (There are 1-4 hairs in the follicular unit).
With the FUE technique the hair follicles are removed individually with from the donor aread with a special medical tool. If the process is done properly, it is barely noticeable even with a short haircut.
Since there is no surgical incision (hence suture), the treated areas heal faster. When an additional session is required, it can usually be applied every 1 day.
Patients do not suffer from pain or loss of sensation after the procedure.
Ideal for moustache, eyebrow, beard transplantation and scar repair.
Who can have FUE hair transplantation?
It can be applied to every healthy man and woman between the ages of 20-75 with androgenetic alopecia (genetic origin baldness), if there is enough donor hair follicle to cover the recipient areas. It can also be preferred for covering some scars caused by accidents and injuries.
How is FUE hair transplantation done?
The patient is first examined and a hair analysis is performed for a successful result. Then, a personalized hair transplant plan is made to ensure that the new hair fully fits the patient's profile.
The FUE process is carried out in 4 stages:
1. Preparation of the donor area
In order to determine the direction of the hair follicles during the extraction (extraction), the patient's hair is shaved completely and the scalp is washed with a special solution to prevent the risk of infection.
Then the borders of the donor area, which is going to be used, are drawn.
Finally, local anaesthesia (conscious sedation) is applied to the patient in order not to feel pain during the procedure itself. This stage takes about 1 hour.
2. Removal of the hair follicles (follicular units)
The hair follicles from the anesthetized donor area are removed individually without diluting the hair by using a manual or micro-motor punch (a special piercing tool with a pen-like tip) with a diameter of 0.7-0.8 mm. Although this process varies depending on the amount of hair follicle to be collected, it may take an average of 3 hours.
The hair follicles, which are preserved in physiological saline solution and at a low temperature, are then processed with great care under the microscope and made ready to be placed into the recipient area.
3. Preparation of the recipient area
The recipient area is marked according to the personalized hair transplant plan.
Channels are then opened, using medical tools, according to the thickness and depth of the hair follicles in the area anesthetized with local anaesthesia.
Specific standards regarding distribution, size and direction are then followed.
Processing time depends on the number of channels to be opened.
4. Transplanting hair follicles
In this last stage, the hair follicles are carefully placed in the opened channels, one by one in the appropriate angle and direction, and also by taking into account the growth conditions of the hair.
Single hair follicular units are used to create a natural hairline.
Follicular units containing dual hairs are placed right behind the single units, and follicular units that contain between 3-4 hairs are placed in the middle of the scalp.
Depending on the number of hair follicles to be transplanted, the process takes about 3 hours.
After the FUE hair transplantation is completed, the treated area is thoroughly checked and bandaged, and the patient is informed about the rules to be followed.
In addition, medications may be prescribed against pain and risk of infection. The next day, the bandage is removed and the dressing is done.
A few days after the hair transplant, the patient can return to normal activities and work. The doctor informs each patient personally and gives specific instructions according to their daily routine and profession.
How long does the FUE hair transplant take?
The duration of a session may vary depending on the amount of hair follicles to be transplanted and the surgeon's experience. The average time is between 6 and 9 hours. Between the application stages the patient can have a meal and take rest breaks of 10-15 minutes. The patient can return home after the session is complete. If the area that to be treated is large, 2 or more sessions can be applied at 1-2 days apart depending on the patient's condition.
When will the hair grow after the FUE hair transplantation?
Itching and inflammation may develop in the first 15 days. In addition, small crusts appear that can fall off spontaneously. (Let your doctor know if the crusting takes longer.)
Some or all of the transplanted hair may fall out between the 3rd week and 2nd month after the procedure.
From the 3rd month, when the hair follicles adapt, new hair begins to grow (approximately 1 cm per month).
From the 6th month, the hair continues to grow stronger.
After 1 year, a completely natural appearance is achieved.
Physiological saline solution or aloe vera gel can be applied to relieve itching.
What should be paid attention to with the FUE hair transplantation?
The first day after hair transplantation is very important. Drink plenty of fluids and do not engage in strenuous activities; have a good rest.
Sleep on your back and use a firm small pillow.
Gently wash your hair 4 days after the hair transplant with your fingers and palms - never use your nails - with warm water and shampoo recommended by the doctor (Usually the first wash is done by the doctor.) Then dry it gently with a towel without using a blow dryer.
In the first 3 days, apart from the special headgear given to you, do not use accessories, hats etc. Afterwards, keep your hair out of the sun and away from dust, etc. You can use loose and breathable net caps to protect it from external factors.
Avoid activities that involve sweating as much as possible in the first week. Be especially careful not to sweat your scalp.
Avoid stress and stressful environments as it may delay the attachment of hair follicles.
Since the risk of infection is high, take antibiotics prescribed by the doctor regularly. Avoid alcohol consumption while using antibiotics.
For about 2 months, do not do not engage in sports or activities where the head area may be hit.
You can cut your hair after 3 months with scissors and 6 months later with a razor.
Do not go to the sea, baths and saunas for the period indicated by the doctor.
When dressing and undressing, choose clothes with buttons for a while so that your hair is not damaged.
