After graduating from Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medicine, he started the urology graduate degree program in Ege University Faculty of Medicine Urology Department in 1998. During his study, he was a surgical internship and urology assistant at St. James Hospital and he performed a general surgery rotation at Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, England. While he was a urology assistant, he successfully passed the exams of the General Medical Council and became one of the first Turkish doctors to get the right to work as a medical doctor in England. After becoming a urology specialist in May 2003, he started to work in Ege University Faculty of Medicine as a specialist doctor. In the same year, he passed the written and oral board exam of the European Association of Urology and earned the title of "Fellow of the European Board of Urology".
In 2004, within the scope of the "European Urological Scholarship Program", he worked at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the field of "Endourology", and he worked between 2006-2007 at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, USA in the field of "Laparoscopic and Robotic Urology" Receiving the title of Associate Professor of Urology in 2010, Dr. Turna became the second Turkish doctor to be elected as a Board Member of the Urotechnology Sub-Group of the European Association of Urology, due to his successful work in the field. He continues to work as a Board Member of the Endourology Association and the Turkish Urology Association
He has over 100 national and international articles published to date. Between 2010 and 2016, he served as Vice President of Surgical Sciences, Associate Professor Representation and Head of Urogenital Surgery Training Program at Ege University Faculty of Medicine. Turna was awarded the Turkish Urology Association Science Award that year for his successful work in 2014. Having served as speaker, instructor and guest surgeon in many national and international scientific conventions, Dr. Burak Turna was the co-chairman of the 26th World Videourology Congress held in Izmir in 2015. Receiving the title of Urology Professor in 2016, Dr. Turna's main area of interest is Laparoscopic and Robotic Urological Surgery and he is one of the most experienced academicians in this field. His book "Practical Tips in Urology", published in English for young urology doctors in 2017. Currently working as a faculty member at Ege University Faculty of Medicine Urology Department, Prof. Dr. Burak Turna is married and with two children.
